Croquet is an enjoyable, sociable game that can be played by people of any age and of either sex.
There are two principal forms of the game – Association and Golf and at Ben Rhydding we mostly play Golf Croquet. This is quick to learn but requires accuracy and tactics to master. It can be played as singles or doubles. If you would like to get an idea how the game is played, you can look on Youtube and find Introduction to Golf Croquet.
More recently a small enthusiastic group have started to gain experience of Association Croquet.
As with any game, the best players probably start young, but as with our club many take it up after retiring from more energetic pursuits. It can be as skilful as you want it to be – advanced players can take it very seriously, but most club members probably see it as a relaxing way to spend part of the day. It is a very friendly and social sport and is perhaps unusual in that men and women can compete on equal terms.
