Spring Social

I have arranged a dinner at The Fox Hollow private dining room at The Four Seasons Hotel on the evening of Wednesday, 27 April. There is a two course menu with choices for £30 (the kitchen is very flexible if the choices are not good for you). I have also arranged for us to bring our own wine. There will be no corkage charge, normally £45!

For entertainment “Ian on the Ivories” will give a half hour concert. Ian Harrison, who some of you know, is a very talented pianist who plays at his local church every Sunday as well as at charity ensembles.

The menu is below and there is also an option to buy desert. Please let Sue Smith suesmith6000@yahoo.co.uk know if you would like to attend, together with your choices, partners welcome – numbers limited to 24.

ALL PLAYERS PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING COVID-19 REGULATIONS – IT IS IMPORTANT, NO EXCUSES!!

Temporary Covid-19 Regulations

  • This tournament can only take place if participants adhere to the guidance of the managers.
  • Health – obvious but it needs to be said: don’t come if you are feeling at all unwell. We are not asking players to wear masks but feel free to do so if it makes you feel safer. Club House – can only be used for toilets. No changing, drinks, etc  (This may change as we come out of lockdown)
  • Family and friends – we shall be playing ‘behind closed doors’, so we cannot have any non-players attending.
  • Whites – Are optional. Most play in civvies.
  • Hygiene – please try to bring your own personal sanitisers, though some will also be provided, and all players are asked to use it before and after each game. Remember to clean your clips, and the arms of any chair you have used, too. As far as possible, move balls with your foot or mallet, rather than by hand. Between games balls will be kept in a bucket of water.
  • Refereeing – in marginal situations please do not call a referee (every player is his/her own referee). On the occasions you must have a referee to watch a shot the referee must approach no nearer than one metre. This might mean the judgment made is not as accurate as it might be if nearer. We ask your forbearance of such ‘rough justice’.
  • Tournament management – report results verbally to the manager, instead of writing on the Order of Play chart, as you usually would. Be careful not to crowd around the notice board.

DON BECK .

Lawn Opening

Unfortunately we have had to postpone next week’s (3rd June) BYO until later in June.

1. The lawn has been reseeded in parts and will not be ready to walk on, and

2. in the light on social mixing, table service, no buffets etc. it has been decided best not to have BYO just yet (especially as there is now surge testing in the area).

If all goes well with the Govt. road map (and the grass seed!) we should be on course to get going in around a month. I will keep you posted.

So take care everyone and stay vigilant

Glynis

Lawn Opening

Dear Members,

The croquet lawn has been scarified and seeded but, due to the unseasonal overnight temperatures in April, it needs more time to recover and Andrew Harrison, the general manager, would like to re-open it on 1 June. This is the probable date to be confirmed later.

The committee have agreed, however, that we should formally open the club for the 2021 season on Thursday, 3 June and combine this with a BYO, from 5pm This will go ahead whether the lawn is open or not so please put this date in your diaries and bring your favourite drinks, nibbles and chair together with appropriate clothing for the weather. We are allowed groups of 30 people socialising outside so hopefully we can have a full house!

I hope you are all fit and well, have had your vaccinations and are looking forward to lots of croquet this summer.

 Best wishes,

Roger
