Ken Wheeler Shield

On Saturday 24 July three members of Norwich CC and one member of Great Dunham CC represented Norfolk in the annual EACF GC team tournament, held this year at Wrest Park.  Norfolk prevailed by the narrowest of margins over the EACF Select team and won the Ken Wheeler Shield.

John Reddish was team captain and an unused substitute but Trevor Whittaker and Jeremy Moore both made substantial contributions to the victory.

The final scores were:

Norfolk                                 12 points

EACF Select                        11 points

Bedfordshire                     11 points

Cambridgeshire 9 points

Suffolk                                  3 points

Hertfordshire                    2 points

Duncan Hector won both of his singles matches and 2 of his 4 doubles matches and scored 5 points for the team.

Trevor Whittaker won 2 of his three singles matches and both of his doubles matches and scored 3 points.

Jeremy Moore won 2 of his 3 singles matches (including the crucial final match against Cambridgeshire’s Chris Van Essen) and scored 4 points.

Those puzzled by the points scored should note that a singles win scored 1 point and a doubles win scored half a point but in the final “Gold Medal” round of 3 singles matches each win scored 3 points.
